easter island

After 4 1/2 days at sea, we have arrived at Easter Island.  We have to anchor out and take "tenders" (life boats) into shore.  It is a lovely day, but the seas have large swells, not choppy, just rolley, making getting into the tenders unsafe.  I am thinking, all this way to get this close.  After 2 hours delay, we are finally able to go ashore.  We rented a taxi van with 6 other people and we took a tour of the island (all the way around)  You have seen most of the standing statues on TV, but in addition to those statues is the quarry where they made them.  There you can see statues, or Moai, in different stages of completion.  An amazing amount of work to cut out lava with black obsidian glass tools.  This is what they guess from the remains.  The rest of the pictures will be sent one at a time (I have been having computer problems, we will see if this

works any better)
