history

The Japanese were here in WW II. There are many remnants of their occupation still around. Nothing has been cleaned up. Here is a bunker where Yamamoto had his headquarters. He was killed on a flight out of Rabaul.

The other picture is of one of innumberable tunnels that the Japanese had the locals dig for them to hide their weapons and personnel. There are still barges in some of the tunnels.
