Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Sunrise over Dubai. The building in front of the sun, is the tallest building in the world. It will be at least 150 stories. They will not say exactly, since they are still adding floor, at the rate of 1 story every 3 days The men greeted us when we arrived, and sang songs accompanied by their camel sticks
Here is our protection. Cute isn't he!
As we drove toward the dunes, we saw camels on the new highway. The road was not officially open yet, but we were on it, as were many other vehicles, and the camels
A view of the desert and the distant mountains. The dunes we were adventuring on were steeper and had no vegetation, but I was unable to take pictures during the ride, for obvious reasons
We visited a camel farm where they raise racing camels. Yes, they have camel races here. We wanted to see them, but they ended 2 weeks ago. Rats!
Us on the camel, we are in front
Obvious
Arleen having henna tattoo put on her hand, and Duane with his scorpian. They should last a week.

MARCH 27
Here we are Dubai, the fastest growing city in the world. And it looks like it. Everywhere you look there are cranes. They are not only building the largest airport in the world, the tallest building in the world but they have built and are building islands into the Persian Gulf. They are also growing into the desert. We took a 4wd tour into the desert and our driver told us that a flat area of sand, where they have already installed electric boxes, used to be where they took 4wd dunes trips. Now we have to travel further out to find the dunes. And find them we did. We went in a Toyota Landcruiser with deflated tires and 4wd and boy did we have fun sliding down the dunes. He is a very good driver, since we are here to tell you about it.

After the dunes, we went to a camel farm, then to a lunch. At the lunch place we got to ride a camel, slide down a dune on a sand (snow) board, get our arms painted with henna and watch a belly dancer. All and all a fun day. The camel was fun, but hard for Arleen to get on, since her legs are too short to reach over. But mounting was accomplished, and away they went for a short camel ride. And yes they had muzzles, so they could not spit, even if they wanted to.

We came back to the ship, and we think the ride by car, through the traffic, was scarier than the dunes. But we arrived safely and took a shuttle to a shopping mall. I think it may compare in size with the pentagon. It has at least 4 floors and goes on forever. No low end stores, just ones like Saks, Ralph Loren, etc. We looked around, came back and decided to blog you guys.

Next we will be at sea for 6, count them, 6 days. After that we will be in Egypt. Can't wait.
