GIBRALTAR, GREAT BRITAIN

This is what the rock actually looks like when you are there. Not at all like the commercials the city walls are both Moorish and British. You can see the old, small bricked Moorish wall on the right and the larger bricks on the left of the newer British wall
St Michael's Cave inside the rock
Arleen is not lying when she says she has a monkey on her back. (and on her shoulder and her head....)
Our tablemate and friend, Randy. The monkey is like a small child, interested in everything
This is the view Spain. Our driver had no good feelings toward Spain

Gibraltar was a walled city twice. First, made by the Moors in about the 8th century and then by the British. The British used what they could of the Moorish wall in theirs. You can see the difference in the walls in the photo. The large brings, of course, are the newer wall. The walls can be seen in a lot of places around the city.

We took a van tour that showed us the "Rock" We saw the St. Michael's Cave, with stalactites and stalagmites. It even has a theatre inside.

Then we went and saw the "Gibraltar Apes" which are really macaque monkeys. We were warned about them being aggressive, so don't bring food or let them near you. Well.... the baby monkey jumped on our backs, and played with our clothing. Mommy monkey wasn't happy about baby playing with us, but she let it out on baby, not on us. I could be there still....but we did have a ship to catch. Arleen really does have a monkey on her back.

We then went to see the Great Siege Tunnels. This tunnel was built by hand in 1783-4 to help save Gibraltar from an attack by a combined force of French and Spanish. (our driver was adamant about how all Spanish have the people of Gibraltar, and visa versa.)

We also saw the WWII tunnel thru the rock from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. Still is a military post.

The rock has been expanded greatly, by reclaiming land from the sea, and there is an amazing amount of construction going on.

We did a little window shopping and then headed back to the ship.
