The Battle of TRUK

Truk was the largest Japanese Naval Base during WWII. the US decided to by pass Truk on its way to Japan but they sent eight aircraft carriers to destroy the shipping in the lagoon. the aircraft from the carriers flew six missions in two days and destroyed most of the shipping, primarily merchant ships carrying tanks, weapons, ammunition and supplies, in and outside the Lagoon. The wreckage has created a scuba divers paradise. The garrison at Truk was isolated for the rest of the war which increased the hostility between the natives and the Japanese troops, as they forced the natives to work and to give them all their food so both the natives and the soldiers faced starvation. There is only one oriental living on the Island of Chuuk and he is Chinese because of the intense hatred of the Japanese by the natives.
